THE ASSIGNMENT
For this project you will pick a single event which impacted your life. This can be an event you experienced first-hand, or something that happened within the world that affected you. You will be illustrating this event using a linear-narrative form. You want to tell the story of this experience in a compelling and original way. You can use any medium within your book (i.e. photography, drawing, painting, or mixed media).
The book does not have to utilize text, but it can if you wish. Follow the steps below to get started:
First, you will make a mind map organizing your thoughts on the event.
Second, you will make a list of 10 ways that you could illustrate your event through a series of drawings. List making is a form of brainstorming to point is to find original and effective ways of describing your event – avoiding clichés. Choose the most effective approach from your list.
Third, you will make a six to eight page "Artist Book" visually illustrating your event. The book needs to narrate the event in chronological order in a unique and compelling way. The book can be made in accordion form or bound through stitching or stapling.
