LIBRARY DRAWING
Students should note that this is a sample assignment. Instructors may alter its contents, and referring to the materials given directly by the instructor will always be the most accurate.

OBJECTIVES
  1. Gain experience interpreting architectural space in one and two-point perspective.
  2. Learn basics of atmospheric perspective and how it can be combined with linear perspective.
  3. Learn how line wight and value can change the perception of the object.

THE ASSIGNMENT
Assignment Guidelines:
Step #1
In ETSU’s Sherrod Library you will do a short one-point perspective drawing in the “stacks” on level 3. Sitting at the end of a stack, use lines on the shelves and the ceiling’s grid as a guide to render perspective in contour line. This is more of a study than a finished drawing.
  • The drawing should fill approximately half of your 18 x 24-inch pad.
  • It should take no longer than 45 minutes.
  • Notate where the horizon line and vanishing point are within the drawing.

Step #2
Find a spot in the library where there is a good example of two-point perspective and complete a study with the same parameters as Step #1. If you cannot complete this drawing in class, please complete it for homework.
  • The drawing should fill approximately half of your 18 x 24-inch pad.
  • It should take no longer than 45 minutes.
  • Notate where the horizon line and vanishing point are within the drawing.
